The White Horse
Our History
Said to have been erected in the reign of Edward III in 1365 the premises was occupied by the Verger of St. James’ Church which stood next door. With the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539, the house was no longer connected with the Church.
In 1574 it became home to a string of ‘Ale Tasters of Dover’ residents. The White Horse has been known as ‘The City of Edinburgh’ from 1635, its name and sign having been taken from a wrecked American freighter.

THE WHITE HORSE, DOVER
The White Horse is a historic pub in Dover, a coastal town in England, It became the meeting place for Actors & Players from the Dover Theatre in the 18th Century. The name changed around 1818 when the house was frequently used for inquests, often relating to bodies recovered from the sea. These are said to have been stored in what is now our dining area to the rear of the property

Visiting Dover and we was recommended this place by a relative so we all went, plenty of choice ,large portions and vers friendly staff.
Stopped here by chance waiting for the Ferry … wowwwww, the food was incredible, I had Moules & frites, best I’ve ever had 😋 so tasty! Not cheap, but well.
Cozy pub with good food. We had a table booked. There's a lot of corners in the pub. It felt like we were in our own living room with our family!
My partner and I came here for lunch after a trip to the castle. I had nachos to start and then the burger, he had calamari and fish and chips.
The White horse pub in Dover was very interesting. It has all over the walls and ceilings autographs of people that have crossed swam the English Channel.
We had a family group Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday and the food was really good. Everyone in our group of 11 was very happy with the food quality and I’d definitely book again.
Fantastic food and service. Staff were friendly and helpful. Vegan dish was amazing. Really nice atmosphere and overall an excellent experience.
